Bites with The Bougie Brunch Girl

by Jayla Asare, Guest Columnist, @thebougiebrunchgirl

Hey everyone! My name’s Jayla Asare, and welcome to “Bites with The Bougie Brunch Girl.” I’m so excited to be a guest columnist for Movement.fm and to share some of my favorite restaurants and experiences with all of you! My goal for “Bites with The Bougie Brunch Girl” is to give you my top picks and also hear from you about where you like to dine or where I should dine next! So, without further ado, let’s get into January’s bite.

Now I know January is the month of resolutions and diets, but that doesn’t mean you have to deprive yourself! For this month’s piece, I’m highlighting some of my favorite wintertime and overall favorite brunch spots in Los Angeles.

Brunch at Post and BeamBrunch at Post and Beam

My first favorite: Post and Beam, located in the Leimert Park/Baldwin Hills area. Post and Beam is the perfect combination of comfort and class. It’s classic soul food with an elevated twist, and I love the fact that it’s Black-owned.

Must-tries: the shrimp & grits, and you HAVE to get a waffle on the side. They honestly have one of the best waffles I’ve ever tried.

When to go: weekends, 11am-3pm

Bottomless mimosas? Yes! $18 per person.

Brunch at Blu Jam CafeBrunch at Blu Jam Cafe

My next fave is Blu Jam Cafe. With six locations throughout LA, Blu Jam Cafe has become one of LA’s most popular brunch restaurants. They serve all your favorite breakfast classics super fresh, every single day.

Must-tries: the Crunchy French Toast and the Eggwich

When to go: every day, 8am-3pm

Bottomless mimosas? No, but some locations do serve beer and wine.

Brunch at Great MapleBrunch at Great Maple

The third brunch spot on this month’s list is **Great Maple**. Like Post and Beam, this restaurant specializes in comfort food with a twist. You can check out their locations in Pasadena, La Jolla, Newport Beach, and San Diego.

Must-tries: portobello mushroom fries, truffled deviled eggs, and fried chicken and donuts

When to go: Monday-Saturday, 11am-4pm and Sunday, 9am-4pm

Bottomless mimosas? No, but they do offer mimosas a la carte and cocktails that can serve four people!

Brunch at YardbirdBrunch at Yardbird

The next restaurant on my January list is **Yardbird** at the Beverly Center. Yardbird is another comfort food favorite (can you tell I like comfort food in the winter?) serving Southern classics.

Must-tries: crispy chicken biscuits and blueberry pie pancakes

When to go: weekends, 10am-4pm

Bottomless mimosas? No, but they do serve mimosas, bellinis, and other brunch cocktails.

The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino MakerThe Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker

The last brunch spot on my faves list this month is **The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker** in West Hollywood. Not only is this the most Instagram-worthy brunch restaurant I’ve been to so far, but the food is well worth the hype.

Must-tries: skillet-baked seafood omelette and the breakfast burrito

When to go: all day, any day (but make a reservation)

Bottomless mimosas? No, but get the mimosa flight for $16.

That concludes my January favorites! I hope you refer back to this list the next time you’re planning a brunch outing, and let me know what you think.

What are some other spots you recommend I try and feature in future bites? Let me know! And don’t forget to check out movement.fm for all of the best moves happening in Los Angeles!

Jayla Asare is a self-proclaimed brunch connoisseur who is always looking for an excuse to brunch and grab a mimosa or three. Jayla created her brunch page @thebougiebrunchgirl on Instagram in 2018 to not only document my brunch experiences, but also to share them with others who were looking for new restaurants to try. While she does consider herself a foodie/food blogger, she wants her page to be more involved than another food page with aesthetically pleasing food photos by providing useful information too. On her page, you’ll find info about the restaurant’s menu, parking, and of course, their alcohol and drink selection. Jayla’s goal for “Bites with The Bougie Brunch Girl” is to give you her top picks and also hear from you about where you’d like to dine or where she should dine next!
